Brothers,

Grand Chapter is in just a couple of days, so get ready and get excited!  Convention will be held this Thursday -Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee.  This year’s agenda features:

-  2008-2010 National Council Elections
-  National Constitution Ammendment votes
-  New Chapter/colony Information Session Demonstration
-  Best Practice Expo
-  Awards Banquet/Installation of Council Officers
-  Battle of the Rockband Tournament
-  And More!

And for delegates, make sure you brush up on the ammendments and council nominees!

National Council Nominations due April 9th

This summer the Grand Chapter will be electing the 47th Empowered Council. The National Constitution requires all nominations for National Council be submitted 150 days prior to the Grand Chapter Conference. That deadline is April 9, 2008. The Constitution further stipulates that any Member in good standing may be elected to the National Council. If you are interested in running I highly recommend you talk with members of the current and past National Councils especially those who have served in the office you are interested in. If you are serious about serving Phi Sigma Pi in this capacity I highly encourage you to apply.

Did you know:
* Undergraduate Members have previously served on National Council. Upon election they become an Alumni of their respective Chapter. The last brother to do this was Britt Marder.
* Dr. Todd served on National Council for 22 years holding the positions of: National President, National Vice President, National Counselor and National Alumni Representative.
* Joseph Torchia served as National Treasurer/Secretary for 19 years, the longest consecutive service in one office.
* The office of National Treasurer/Secretary was only ever held by Sigma Brothers. They held that office for 37 years until the office was split into National Treasurer and National Secretary.

Teach for America Essay Contest

The second annual Phi Sigma Pi – Teach For America Essay Contest (the “Contest”) is underway! The Contest is an opportunity for primary grade students to share with others their opinions on the value of an education. Using the theme, “Why is an education important?” students may submit up to one (1) entry in their appropriate grade category.

The first- and second-place winners in each grade category will be announced at the Phi Sigma Pi National Convention on Saturday, August 9, 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee, where all winning entries will be displayed.

National Council Elections

In the coming months, the National Office will be in full swing with
marketing and promoting our 2008 National Convention and Grand Chapter
Meeting.  This year will be an election year for Phi Sigma Pi.  If you
or Brothers you know are considering, or even curious about running
for office - now is a good time to start looking into process.

The best advice I can offer you is to speak with Brothers who have
gone through the process of running for office and also with those who
have served on National Council in the past.

Not everyone who has served on National Council in the past is visibly
active on listserves, myspace or facebook, but many are very willing
to discuss their experiences and advice to you.

All of us on the current Council are more than happy to speak with you
as well…so please take advantage of this time to learn more about
serving the fraternity and its members.
